Operates, maneuvers, navigates, or drives vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts or other vehicles.<br><br><strong>Overview<br><br></strong><strong>Job Description<br><br></strong>The Equipment Operator II operates light to moderately complex construction equipment for construction and maintenance of City of Dallas' facilities and utilities. Uses control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.<br><br><strong>Essential Functions<br><br></strong><strong>1</strong>. Operates, drives, and safely uses light to moderately complex equipment for City of Dallas and utility maintenance; safely uses and drives rubber-tired backhoe, tracked excavators and loaders, maintainers, bobcats, street sweepers, cranes, soil compactors, and front-end loaders; excavates asphalt and concrete, clears debris and blockages from creeks, and maintains the sanitary sewer system.<br><br><ul><li> Drives trucks and trailer rigs to transport earth moving or other medium to large sized automotive equipment to job site; adheres to safety standards and regulations.</li><li> Loads, transports, and unloads materials such as sand, flexbase, asphalt, gravel, and other construction materials from City stockpiles or vendors to City locations to supply construction or maintenance projects.</li><li> Performs moderately complex mechanical repairs and maintenance procedures on construction equipment to maintain equipment in operating condition. Performs regular equipment inspection to ensure functionality and safety.</li><li> Cleans material storage areas, construction sites, and public streets with light to moderate equipment to maintain or improve appearance of the site.</li><li> Completes daily report of activities performed to document progress and provide supervisors with the knowledge needed to best allocate resources.</li><li> Performs other work as required or assigned.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Knowledge And Skills<br><br></strong><ul><li>Knowledge of equipment operation and capabilities.</li><li>Knowledge of and adherence to the safety procedures at all times.</li><li>Strong motor skills and eye-hand-foot coordination.</li><li>Skill in performing minor mechanical repair and maintenance work.</li><li>Ability to operate numerous types of equipment.</li><li>Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.</li><li>Ability to control speed and direction of light and moderately complex motorized equipment.</li><li>Sufficient knowledge of English to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports.</li><li>Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling.</li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Experience<br><br></strong><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</strong>:<br><br><ul><li>Four (4) years of experience operating variety of light to medium equipment (e.g., backhoe, roto boom, front-end loaders, etc.) used in excavation, construction, utility, landfill and/or street sweeping operations. <br><br></li></ul><strong>License<br><br></strong><ul><li>Valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with good driving record</li><li>Applicants with a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), issued by a state other than Texas, must obtain a Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within ninety (90) days<br><br></li></ul>Work Locations:<br><br><em>This position may be assigned to one of several Dallas Water Utilities locations. Please review the list of work sites and division-specific notes below.<br><br></em>Central Wastewater Treatment Plant<br><br>Note: For Central, this position requires 24-hour scheduled and emergency overtime coverage.
