POSITION SUMMARY:

The Infrastructure Platforms Administration Intern will assist in the day-to-day administration; support and ongoing enhancement of Menard, Inc.’s servers.  The Intern must be able to work in a secure, mission-critical production-computing environment. 

The position requires 15-20 hours per week between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. 

The schedule is flexible and we work with your school schedule!

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Server Maintenance:
    • Investigate, resolve, and document any problems
    • Install new patches/upgrades in development and test systems as needed
  • * New Systems:
    • Support server hardware and software, including Windows and Linux/Unix based servers and server applications both physical and in a virtualization environment.
    • Support tablet and desktop PC software deployments.
    • Support high availability solutions through clustering.
    • Work with cloud based solutions.
    • Support storage using a SAN.
    • Research solutions, develop operational programs & scripts, and implement the final solution after approval
    • Test and configure updates for mobile devices
    • Certifying new mobile and desktop devices
    • Testing new versions of operating systems
  • Other:
    • Monitor ticket volume and troubleshoot issue or communicate with team on getting issues resolved
    • Communicate and troubleshoot with other teams on any issues they are having
    • Create and update process documentation

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Actively enrolled in a college/university, pursuing a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a Computer Science or Networking related field OR Equivalent work experience
  • Excellent design and analytical skills
  • Ability to remain calm and courteous in demanding situations
  • Ability to successfully negotiate with vendors to provide service to the corporation
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work independently, as well as, cooperate with others in team efforts
  • Some proficiency/experience with the following:
    • Windows,
    • UNIX/Linux based servers
    • Networking protocols and client connectivity
    • Server applications (web servers, database software, and general file and print services.) and hardware
    • Enterprise monitoring, management, and backup solutions
  • May be required to work overtime, including weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to work in Eau Claire, WI for the duration of the internship, no remote work available
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
